R. Thies Biography

Ryan Thies triumphantly emerged from the womb twenty-nine years ago, clutching a crude drawing utensil crafted from placenta remnants. Although born in San Angelo TX, Ryan grew up mostly in the hill country of San Marcos and graduated from Hays High School in '99.

From an early age, Ryan aspired to write about himself in the third person. He found that the best way to nurture this desire was to become an artist and write an impressive biography, like so many artists do.

Thies not only found it liberating to write about himself in the third person, but also to write about himself in the third person...talking about himself in the third person. In fact, Ryan once stated, "That R. Thies fellow... some say he's an artist, others say he's an artyr, but I say he's a quantum weiner head."

As a quantum weiner head, he spends most of his time in seclusion, sleep-pooping and poop-nopping. Mainly known for his strange and semi-psychedelic cartoon art, very few people know that he was the first person to tame a double-sided dolphin and ride it across the Atlantic Ocean to England.

Multi-Referential Self-Description

My work is sorta like if Salvador Dali inseminated Dr. Seuss and the embryo was subsequently implanted into Andy Warhol's womb.

Once birthed, this supernatural post-fetal art being was then placed in the foster care of Robert Crumb and M.C. Escher, only to grow up on a steady diet of cartoons, badger milk, and soft-core pornography.

Every once in a while, on like a Friday or Saturday night, Crumb and Escher would go out to see a movie or eat dinner at a fancy restaurant, and so they would call upon Marcel Duchamp to babysit...

Of course, Mr. Crumb and Mc. Escher would insist that none of Duchamp's boyfriends were allowed to come over while they were away, but that never stopped Basil Wolverton or Roy Lichtenstein from dropping by for a quick kiss...kisses which usually developed into something more sensuous. And that pretty much sums it up.
