"The Letter M"

Commentary

One day I was going through a handful of my older sketches and came across a doodle that said "Wipe Me". Perhaps a precursor to my cartoonism lettering, each letter was an abstracted body part or character. The M in particular stuck out to me in this earlier drawing, and I thought it would be fun to do a piece with that letter by itself.

The revived Letter M was actually the first official painting I did. Created in June of 2006 on acid-free cardboard, I would exhibit this piece the following month in my solo show at the Stash in Austin. The piece was well received and the owner even decided to coordinate a spinoff "Alphabet Show", featuring 26 letters by 26 artists, including my piece.

I hope to make my Letter M three-dimensional one day...maybe a functional vase that you can actually put flowers in. It would probably make a nice gift for grandma or something.
