Up until 2006, I mainly worked with Sharpie pens, Prismacolor markers and colored pencils. Then I thought I would give acrylic paint a try; an attempt to increase my fine art cred or something. I didn't enjoy painting much at first; executing linework with a paintbrush turned out to be a lot harder to pull off than with a pen.
I used Sharpie pen for the linework and acrylic paint for the colors for a while, but as I got more comfortable with the medium, I stopped using pen and started executing linework with a brush.
I often build frames for my paintings, and usually select colors for the frame based on the color scheme of the piece being framed.
Working on "Volcanic Symmetry"
Above is a time-lapse video (set to the tune of snazzy lounge music!) I made at the end of '07/beginning of '08, demonstrating my process as I crank out four paintings on masonite panels.
