R. Thies Sculpture/3-D Art

"Shelf-portrait"
Acrylic on Wood Panels + Found Objects; Spring 2008

I finally got around to making a fully functional version of my "Shelf-portrait". I entered this piece into the 2008 Voertman's Juried Show at TWU, and received 3rd place.

**Found objects include: a rubber light bulb, one of my POTheads, a thumbnut pin, and a "Little Walrus Warning" cassette tape**

2006 Prototype; Colored Pencil, Paper, Foamboard

Check out this video documenting the creation of the new "Shelf-portrait"

Check out this time-lapse video of my process as I construct the sculpture you see to the right.....set to the tune of snazzy lounge music!

"Throne of Cone"

Ah yes, the Throne of Cone...won't you take a seat? Actually the cone turned out way taller than I was hoping for; I was having structural problems and had to recut the dowel rods several times. Ideally, the tip of the turd would be flush with the lid of the toilet seat...with minimal dowel movement.

The cone was supposed to represent the angular probability of how feces might exit the sphincter over multiple bathroom sessions...an excremental superposition, if you will.

"Mr. Bo Dangles Encounters a Mid-Morning Meal: An Implied Dialogue Between Predator and Prey"
Mixed Media; Spring 2007

Mr. Bo Dangles was my first official sculpture piece, created in January/February of 2007. Too bad someone broke him during an art exhibit in September of 2007.
